GL - Release Manager


Job Summary


The Release Manager will be taking release activity (currently known as Release Captain rotation) away from Quality Engineers, giving them back critical time to continue to advance our testing activities.


Mobile release activities moving from Quality Engineers to the Release Manager

  • Working with teams to coordinate the resolution of all P0, P1 and P2 bugs and no more than 4 P3 and 4 P4 bugs being released into production;
  • Creating test executions + assigning respectives tests to the aligned team and QE;
  • Updating both Slack channels of stakeholders with progress of regression testing + count of various priority bugs;
  • Ensuring the list of toggles being used in the Mobile Release Features Toggles doc is up to date;
  • Corralling Engineering Managers to ensure all PRs have been merged; and,
  • Collaborating with SDETs for automation to be run + QE for manual testing to begin;


Backend Release activities moving from Quality Engineers to the Release Manager

  • Opening prod Argo PR with latest tag from Github *;
  • Opening/merging stage PR with target RC *;
  • Creating test executions based on areas outlined by the backend team;
  • Executing tests identified; and,
  • Updating respective Slack channel when testing has begun + concluded

* Current responsibility of backend engineers that will transfer to Release Manager


Web Release activities moving from Quality Engineers to the Release Manager

  • Verifying tickets in the Argo CD PR have been tested + should be included in the release
  • Creating a test execution for regression + posting that testing has begun in respective Slack channel
  • Executing all tests within the test execution
  • Working with developer release captain to resolve any open defects and ensuring automation is green
  • Signing off on the release by reviewing the ARGO CD PR's in Github and giving an all clear in the release channel
